. cupertino a u.s. marine is a victim of a shooting. the carb was hit, he -- car was hit, he was not hit. ktvu's ken pritchett is live with how the sherriff's department is searching for the shooter. >> reporter: you can see highway 85. it was at 1:00 p.m. when the officer heard a noise, his back window shattered. he realized his car was shot, that led to a investigation and a shut down of highway 85 with many questions unanswered. >> reporter: police wouldn't identify which marine was driving this car. shattered windows. you see a car with three bullet holes in the drive side doors. >> he gets alerted, notices there is a pop from his window. pulls over and quickly discovers that he has been shot at. more than once, multiple times. >> reporter: to answer the questions investigators shut down interstate 85. this is where the car was hit. the search was on for evidence. as you can see from news chopper 2 traffic was at stand still for an hour as investigators paced the freeway. while it is unclear where the shots came from the sherriff's department does not believe the driver was targeted becaus

starlets to pick up. ktvu allie rasmus live at sfo to tell us what is happening out there and what is expected to be one of the busiest days of the holiday season. >> reporter: that rainy weather could have an impact on your travel plans if you're flying in and out of sfo. so far so good. we checked and there are no cancellations or delays to report. it is really busy out here though. if you take a look behind us you can see the taxis and cars and shuttles lining up along the curb here unloading passengers as they prepare to check in for their flight. this is the peak travel day of the holiday season with 130,000 people expected to pass through sfo. an estimated two million people are expected to come through between now and january 6th. inside the terminal we kept monitoring the board. we've been here since 3:30 this morning. we keep checking and there have been no delays or cancellations in and out of sfo. everything is leaving on time. and no delayed arrivals either. a couple flights from the east coast are scheduled to arrive 10-15 minutes early. all of this could change later

you more details as soon as they become available. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a tragic story from oakland. a grandmother was shot and killed by a stray bullet. ktvu's tara moriarty is in oakland right now with the latest on who she was and how this happened. tara? >> reporter: well, the woman was simply walking to the store, the way she's probably done countless times before. but last night she didn't make it. and now police at headquarters are trying to figure out exactly who is responsible. this violence erupted around 7:00 last night on the 9100 block of international boulevard, when gunfire erupted across the street from the victim. she was a 49-year-old grandmother walking with a relative when she was struck and killed. police did not identify a woman. but a long time friend said she was ramona foreman who cared for her mother. now, police have made no arrests. they are still trying to figure out what instigated the gunfire that left at least ten shellcationss on the sidewalk -- shell casings on the sidewalk and then after that, more gunfire. one person was injured

for this growhouse. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> and to the latest on san francisco muni. it's back up and running after a transformer problem shut down everything for hours. ktvu aalex savidge live at the -- ktvu's alex savidge is live at the van ness station. what do you know? >> reporter: well, right here on market street, i did an interview with the mta spokesperson, he came out here and updated the situation. he says computers who use subway systems can expect a smooth right. all of the issues has been resolved. he tells me all of their trains are running on their regular schedules. let me show you the scene inside the van ness station. all of the trains again moving this morning. there was a shutdown, though, last night. it was about 6:00 when the entire subway system stopped because of a blown transformer at the van ness station. crews had to work throughout the night to fix the problem. and then finally at 1:30 this morning, they had everybody up and running again. with all of the subways out of service. you can imagine it was a major hassle for tens of thousands of commuters.

and a man was injured. his condition is stable and police told ktvu channel 2 morning news they do not believe the two shootings are related. last night's homicide marks the 125th homicide of the year. -- 128th homicide of the year. >>> it led to a gunman on the san jose campus this week. it led to a lock down for three hours on tuesday. the caller said a stranger came to him on the sidewalk and said he had seen a man with a gun near the technology building. police searched the campus and did not find anything suspicious. they said the caller did the right thing by reporting that incident. >>> they are asking for help to find whoever shot at a marine recruiter at highway 85 at 1230 testimony am it in the southbound lanes on stevens creek boulevard. the recruiter was driving an unmarked government car which was hit several times by gunfire. the recruiter marine was not hurt. >> they said the bullets lodged across his lap so he was a really lucky guy. >> reporter: investigators do not believe the marine was tar getted because he was -- targeted because he was wearing a jacket over hi

where children were sleeping. ktvu's janine de la vega is in san jose and spoke to the children's father. good morning, janine. >> reporter: the father told me his family has not slept much but any are breathing a sigh of relief. their little girl was just brought home from the hospital. this is after a truck ran off the road. you can see where the tire marks are here and it ran off the road and plowed down a fence there and smashed into a bedroom. police say the driver of the truck traveling eastbound on taylor veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an apartment at the villa apartments on 23rd street. now, here's a look at the damage inside. the truck crashed into a room where an 8-year-old boy was sleeping and then a room where a 2-year-old girl was screaming. >> my baby's mother has a lot of scars because of the glass. but fortunately, my baby was no hit with no glass or anything. so she doesn't have any really physical damage but she did hit the dresser really hard. >> reporter: this is 2-year-old nalia. she didn't have a scratch on her and is doing okay. police say the driver

hydrant. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live on sandhill road with a look at the flooding and how traffic is being affected. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. well, actual iy, this intersection at sandhill and el camino just opened up about tree minutes ago -- three minutes ago. work crews were trying to work quickly to get this cleaned up because this road is used to get on 280. this whole area was flooded for the past five hours because a hydrant was shooting water into the air. here is a look at this guiser. officers say just before 1:00 a.m., the driver lost control and hit the fire hydrant and kept driving. police caught up with him and arrested him for suspected dui. it took several hours for public work crews to shut off the water because they had a hard time getting to the valve. >> at first, the guiser was about 50 feet high. it was a constant stream of water. it flooded the roadways where we stopped traffic going westbound and we had to block off eastbound traffic as well so the cars would not hydroplane or anything like that. >> reporter: th

for traffic. live in daly city, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. >>> hours ago in hayward several people ran to escape flames at an abandoned pago t building. this happened about three hours ago off dixon and copperfield avenue. ktvu's tara moriarty is here now. you got there shortly after the fire started. you talked to some of the fire victims. what are they saying? >> reporter: right now, arson investigators are here on the scene -- scene are trying to figure out if this is the case. when a woman came downstairs early this morning, she said the living room was filled with smoke and flames. she and her son ran out. this is video from the hayward fire department. crews say that the top and bottom floors of the apartment unit off dixon street and they got here. firefighters were able to knock it out within ten minutes and prevent it from spreading to other people's homes. the woman who lives here told us that she heard a crashing sound. she believes this fire was done on purpose. >> she describes somebody threw something through the window, may have been a cockt

're live in green brain -- greenbrae this morning, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. >>> rising creek waters flooded roadways an temporarily closed highway 101. it happened on the peninsula in a creek that overflowed its banks. janine de la vega is live at the creek to show us some of the damage. >> reporter: well, we're right here on the border of palo alto and east palo alto. this is highway 101 and the creek flows right underneath it and the water was so high last night that it was flashing up over and onto the freeway. this is video of that same area of what it looked like last night. water was flooding on 101, north of the embarcadero. the highway patrol was helping motorists with traffic breaks. the creek crested at university avenue and woodland. the water spilled over and into the entrance of the four seasons hotel. fire officials say even though there was not massive damage, they remain worried about the creek. >> we need to work on these holes in this levy. can't leave it like this especially since we're early in the winter and this is the second significan

problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the

because it was considered a crime scene. earlier this morning ktvu called oakland police and they confirmed they didn't because they didn't have enough officers. we tried to call the crash victim but got no answer on his cell phone but we don't know if he is still stranded. >> new york police are searching for a suspect that killed a man by pushing him in front of a new york subway train. here's surveillance video of the woman police believe to be responsible. it happened last night when the man was shoved in front of a northbound train in queens. police believe he was pushed by the woman in her 20s. witnesses say she fled after the incident. the man died at the scene and has not yet been identified. two law students have been charged with animal cruelty in connection with an incident at a loss vegas casino in october. the 24 year olds are accused of decapitating an exotic bird at the casino. charges include felony killing and torturing of an animal. if convicted he could face prison time and it could effect his future career in law. the other was only charged with a misd
